TCAD Personnel Return from Haiti, Receive Donated Equipment |
|
Taney County Ambulance District completed their deployment in Haiti and returned home on February 6th. They had been working in Port Au Prince under Missouri Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MO1 DMAT). Alongside the International Medical Surgical Team, MO1 DMAT did 6-15 surgeries and several conscious sedation procedures every day of their deployment.
Dana Aumiller, TCAD Special Operations Coordinator, stated, “We learned a lot on this deployment. One thing we learned in Port Au Prince was there is never enough medical equipment, especially cardiac monitors. Too many patients, too few tools.”
In order to better equip the team for future local and international deployments, the Zoll Medical Corp. has donated an M-Series Cardiac Monitor. The new monitor, valued at over $20,000, will add to the team’s ability to perform the advanced life support monitoring that is necessary on the scene of a disaster. TCAD can currently deploy the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) to any city in Missouri impacted by a disaster. In 2008, TCAD received a $1 million grant to design, plan, and purchase a 50+ bed mobile hospital unit. The purpose of the MMU is to support a small hospital or special care center that is deemed dysfunctional by a natural or other disaster. |
